Utah Jazz Sportsmanship Initiative
As we are joining the great Jr. Jazz Program this year we will also be doing the Utah Jazz Sportsmanship Initiative. This program teaches and emphasizes the importance of good sportsmanship. The initiative focuses on three main parts of sportsmanship: respecting everyone, having fun and always doing your best. It focuses not only on the player and their behavior, but on the behavior of coaches and parents as well.
Each week players, parents and coaches will be scored based on their behavior during the game. At the end of the Jr. Jazz season the team in each age division with the highest score will win. The winning teams from each city will be invited to a party at Energy Solutions Arena to honor the sportsmanship winners. Parents and coaches of the winning team will also be rewarded. As parents, your behavior will directly affect your kid's opportunity to win the award.
This season Richfield Parks and Recreation will be awarding Sportsmanship Player of the Game. At the end of the game the coach will pick the winner for their team. The winner will receive a candy bar and a certificate.
Please remember that the purpose of Jr. Jazz is to emphasize skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship and positive adult interaction. You as parents play a crucial role in accomplishing these goals for your children as well as all the others that participate in the Jr. Jazz program. Please help us teach everyone the importance of good sportsmanship and make the Jr. Jazz program enjoyable for all who participate. Thanks for your support. We look forward to a great season.
